LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK
Our Hotel is ideally located in Glenridding by Ullswater – the ideal place to explore the beautiful Lake District National Park. The Lake District is England’s only true mountain region and contains some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery in the land. The valleys which radiate from the central massif of mountains contain long, deep, glacially formed lakes which provide a marvellous contrast to the spectacular peaks and give the area its name.
The scenery in the Lake District never fails to leave the visitor with a sense of awe, and an understanding of why this landscape inspired a generation of poets.
The physical beauty, abundance of fauna, striking flora and native wildlife makes the county of Cumbria, and the Lake District National Park, the most attractive destination in the United Kingdom today.
There is so much to see and do within this part of the Lake District, and we have tried to provide an idea of the range of activities and places to visit to help you plan your stay with us.
We are on the shore of England’s most beautiful lake, Ullswater, where you can sail, kayak, canoe, swim and now you can also walk around Ullswater. The Ullswater Way is a 20-mile walking route around Ullswater. The route can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. Why not walk the route in shorter sections, using an open top bus or steamer to start your journey!
Helvellyn and the Eastern Fells of the Lake District
For those looking to get out and explore the fells, either on foot or by bike, then Glenridding is the perfect base. The hotel is overlooked by the majestic Place Fell on the eastern shore of Ullswater, and to the west you can explore Helvellyn and the rest of the Eastern Fells, including St Sunday Crag, Fairfield, Stybarrow Dodd and many more. There are also plenty of more leisurely walks including the walk along the lake shore from Howtown and the new walk from Glencoyne Bay to the waterfall at Aira Force.
